Founded in 1995 by the Parents and Friends Association for Disabled People of Corfu, MELISSA is a vocational school for children over the age of 14 with Autism Spectrum disorders, Down’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and other intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The school’s program provides special training, socialisation, psychological support, sports, theatre, games, independent living skills, music, computer training, educational excursions and summer camps.
The centre also operates a fully-functioning bakery out of the school and sells three types of cookies to visitors and several retailers on the island.
Since April 2006, the centre has also successfully taken part in the football tournaments for the Special Olympics, which has brought tremendous joy and excitement to everyone involved.
Thanks to the contributions and support of many caring and conscious citizens, MELISSA has been able to stay active. We encourage you to stand by these children and support MELISSA’s important and valuable work. People with special needs need our help every day. Through education, professional training, creative activities and occupational rehabilitation, MELISSA gives these children the chance of leading a life of care, integration and respect.
